Anita Cox has been working in the field of domestic violence since 1995. She has worked as a crisis counsellor to women in Queensland Australia for seven years, and has worked as a crisis counsellor to children for two years. She has also worked in the country of Belarus for 2-6 month periods since 2001 providing training, support, and resources for domestic violence crisis centers, orphanages, those who work with orphans, and groups of adults interested in understanding more about domestic violence and its effects. Anita is also a trainer for the ASSIST suicide intervention training program. She began to work full time in Eastern Europe and the former USSR in February 2006. Karen Hvidding has been working with orphans in Belarus since 2001 and continues to work in Eastern Europe and the former USSR on a full time basis. She has worked with state run orphanages, private children's homes, camps, children's hospitals, schools and churches. She began working with women and children in Romania in April 2006. She has worked to provide therapeutic activities and resources for children in institutions that encourage artistic development, creative expression, and healing since becoming aware of the isolation and powerlessness that orphans experience throughout their life. |
